Pedro is Professor in Crystallography at the University of Oviedo.
His research is focused on the characterization of the chemical composition and crystalline properties
in mineral replacement reactions at low temperature and biological processes.
Pedro has >10 years experience in the development of X-ray diffraction and other spectroscopic (i.e. FTIR and Raman)
techniques to study the chemical and structural mechanisms that control the growth and transformation of mineral phases
during dissolution-precipitation reactions.
PAL scientific outcomes also contain important developments on the understanding how the organisms control the mineralization
of tissues in highly organized microstructures (i.e. bone morphologies and mollusc shells) as well as other polycrystalline materials
(polymer-clay nanocomposites).
