Encarnación Professor in Mineralogy and Vice Dean of International Relations at University of Granada.
Her main research is on carbonate minerals, focussing on the factors that control their growth in multicomponent aqueous solutions,
and has led her to an advanced stage of understanding the structure of mineral surfaces, fluid-mineral interaction and how organic
and inorganic additives can modify water structure with consequent effects on carbonate dissolution and growth rates and minor
element incorporation.
Encarnación's group makes extensive use of different microscopy techniques, such as AFM, SEM and TEM.
Ruiz-Agudo has been awarded with the Prize of Young Researchers of the Spanish Society of Mineralogy (2008),
Arne Richter Award for Outstanding Young Scientists of the European Geosciences Union (2012),
and European Mineralogical Union Research Excellence Medal (2014),
and the Young Researchers Award from the Social Council of the University of Granada.
